Cutter Aviation 85th Anniversary Kickoff at NBAA Convention in Orlando

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

PHOENIX, AZ – As Mr. William P. Cutter began the first day of business for Cutter Flying Service in January of 1928, the landscape of General and Business Aviation at the time was as uncharted and rugged as the landscape surrounding his airport in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The concept of an “aviation business” had only been officially defined by the government two years earlier with the passage of the Air Commerce Act of 1926, so the idea of offering services to such a fledgling industry was considered to be a substantial risk for anyone embarking on such a venture.  Undeterred, William P. Cutter saw a need for aviation in the Southwest to improve transportation infrastructure, help industries grow in the region, and provide critical air service to isolated communities in need of services and supplies.  Eighty-five years ago, William P. Cutter believed in General and Business Aviation and the principles behind his goals for Cutter Flying Service remain as true today for the industry as he saw them back in 1928.  The legacy of William P. Cutter continues today as Cutter Aviation, the oldest continually family-owned and family-operated aviation services network in the United States, celebrates the kickoff of its 85th Anniversary Celebration year at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Annual Meeting & Convention in Orlando, FL from October 30 to November 1, 2012.

Eighty-five years of continual growth and business success is a remarkable achievement for any company and Cutter Aviation is proud to be celebrating such a monumental milestone in 2012 and 2013.  Not only surviving, but thriving through such times as the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War and Vietnam War, and several economic recessions and energy droughts, Cutter Aviation is a symbol in General Aviation of tenacity, determination, and commitment to the core promises of delivering a wide range of quality products and services at a better value to loyal customers for generations.  While other businesses may compromise quality for profits or change hands and shareholders over their lifetime, Cutter Aviation remains as the consistent and dependable name that owners, pilots, and crews rely on for the best service in the Southwestern United States – line services, maintenance, avionics, aircraft sales, aircraft charter and management.

Cutter Aviation will be kicking off their 85th Anniversary Celebration year at the NBAA Convention from the Phillips 66 Aviation Booth #4560 throughout the event. The Cutter Aviation team will be giving away cans of our World-renowned Cutter Aviation Hatch Chiles from New Mexico at our two kiosks in the Phillips 66 booth.

Additionally, on Tuesday, October 30th at 2:00pm (ET), Phillips 66 and Cutter Aviation will be having cake to celebrate the 85th Anniversary of each company.  Phillips 66 Aviation is concluding their 85th Anniversary year in 2012 at the NBAA Convention while Cutter Aviation begins our 85th Anniversary year at the event!  Cutter Aviation is also the oldest Phillips 66 Aviation Fuels dealer in their network of over 870 fixed base operators (FBO) in the nation, with Cutter Aviation (formerly Cutter Flying Service) in Albuquerque, NM becoming a dealer in 1938 and remaining so for 75 years.

Cutter Aviation Completes Aircell WiFi Internet STC for Beechjet

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Cutter Aviation is proud to announce the completion of the first Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for in-flight, high-speed wireless connectivity for the Beechjet 400A and Hawker 400XP family for Aircell Gogo Biz in-flight broadband. Cutter Aviation avionics engineers in Phoenix, AZ developed the STC in partnership with Aircell, a leader in in-flight connectivity solutions, utilizing the Aircell ATG 4000 and ATG 5000 systems for installation in the Beechjet airframe. The STC was awarded on December 19, 2011 after nearly a year of development and is now available for purchase and installation on all Beechjet 400A and Hawker 400XP light business jet aircraft.

“In-flight wireless internet access is no longer just an ‘extra’ for business aviation aircraft… it has become a requirement for peak in-flight productivity in the digital age” said the Director of R&D for Aircraft Avionics and Services at Cutter Aviation. “Beechjet and Hawker 400XP operators have been waiting for a light, cost-effective in-flight WiFi solution for their aircraft and Cutter Aviation stepped up to meet their needs with the Aircell STC package.”

With the Aircell in-flight WiFi STC by Cutter Aviation, Beechjet operators may now enjoy Internet access in the air just like what they find at home, in the office, or at public “hotspots” like their local coffee shop.  Laptops, tablets and smartphones connect in-flight with ease just like a normal WiFi connection. In-flight users connect at speeds up to 3.1 megabites per second (mbps) and network coverage extends nationwide. Unlike the heavy and expensive equipment used in many first-generation in-flight phone and internet systems found on other aircraft, the equipment and antennas developed by Aircell are light and compact enough for easy installation on a light jet like the Beechjet and more affordable than ever.

Various monthly data packages through the Aircell Gogo Biz provide internet access for a wide range of budgets, from basic connectivity through unlimited data plans.

With more than 10,000 systems shipped worldwide, Aircell is the undisputed leader in global airborne communications. Already flying on thousands of aircraft, Aircell’s voice, data and broadband systems are the choice of every major business aircraft manufacturer as well as the world’s largest airlines. Cutter Aviation is proud to be a dealer for Aircell throughout the Southwestern United States and a developer of new STC solutions using Aircell technology.

For more information on Aircell In-Flight WiFi systems on the Beechjet 400A and Hawker 400XP by Cutter Aviation, please visit http://www.cutteraviation.com/BeechjetWiFi or contact Cutter Aviation Avionics at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) at 602-267-4070.

Cutter Aviation Named Authorized Service Center for GE M601 & H80

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Via GE Aviation – Cutter Aviation has signed an agreement with GE Aviation to become an Authorized Service Center for GE’s M601 and H80 turboprop engines.  The agreement between Cutter Aviation and GE Aviation was made final during the 2011 NBAA Convention in Las Vegas, NV.

As part of the agreement, Cutter Aviation will offer comprehensive line maintenance, removals and re-installations of engines and line-replaceable units (LRUs) and engine spares for the M601 and H80 engine families. These engine services will be provided at five Cutter Aviation locations that currently offer aircraft maintenance & service: Albuquerque, NM (ABQ); Dallas – McKinney, TX (TKI); Phoenix – Deer Valley, AZ (DVT); Phoenix-Sky Harbor, AZ (PHX); and San Antonio, TX (SAT). GE Aviation will provide Cutter Aviation with comprehensive material support and training.

“GE is excited to work with Cutter Aviation to better serve customers in the Southwest region of the United States,” said Paul Theofan, president and managing executive of GE Aviation’s Business and General Aviation Turboprops. “With this significant expansion to our authorized service network, M601 and H80 customers will enjoy enhanced service and support coverage from one of the nation’s premier FBO networks.”

Founded more than 83 years ago by William P. Cutter, Cutter Aviation has been one of the leading aviation service providers in the southwestern United States and one of the most well-known brands in general aviation. As the oldest, continually family owned and operated FBO network in America, Cutter Aviation has decades of experience providing the best service for an outstanding value. Following the principles of respect, trust and integrity, Cutter Aviation truly leads the way in general & business aviation.

GE Aviation’s Business & General Aviation Turboprops has more than 1,600 M601 engines in service that have accumulated more than 17 million flight hours on 30 applications. The H80 engine, GE’s latest turboprop, is expected to receive EASA and FAA certification this year and will power business and general aviation, utility and agriculture aircraft. The H80 engine combines the elegant, robust design of the M601 engine with GE’s 3-D aerodynamic design techniques and advanced materials to create a more powerful, fuel-efficient, durable engine compared with the M601 engine, with no recurrent fuel nozzle inspections and no hot section inspection. The H80 engine will also feature an extended service life of 3,600 flight-hours between overhauls, significantly enhanced hot-day takeoff performance and high-altitude cruise speeds. The H80 will provide the option of a single- or dual-acting governor, allowing customers the flexibility in propeller selection.

Cutter Aviation’s 2011 Denali Scout Featured in AOPA Pilot Article

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

The all-new 2011 Denali Scout, the 210-hp version of the popular Scout from American Champion Aircraft, is featured in the December 2011 issue of AOPA Pilot Magazine, the official publication for the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association.  Written by AOPA Senior Editor Alton Marsh with fantastic photography (and video on AOPA.org) by Mike Fizer, the article reviews and details the development of the first Denali Scout produced by American Champion Aircraft.

Click here to read the article “Power Scout: Lycoming muscle for American Champion’s flagship” by Alton Marsh with photography by Mike Fizer from the December 2011 issue of AOPA Pilot online.  Also make sure to view the streaming video of the 2011 Denali Scout from AOPA at the link.

As referenced in the article, the 2011 Denali Scout is the first production aircraft to offer the 210 horsepower Lycoming IO-390 as the OEM engine and is a significant upgrade from the standard 180-hp Scout.  Larger and more effective control surfaces on the tail and a completely redesigned engine compartment are a few of the other design changes that differentiates the Denali Scout from the original model.  But the most noticeable difference is the performance.

The Denali Scout needs only between 350-390 feet of ground roll for takeoff and can land with only 400 feet or less… making it an outstanding STOL and backcountry aircraft.  The Denali Scout can reach 155 mph in maximum cruise and flies at a comfortable 138 mph in 75% power cruise and only consuming 12 gph of fuel at that speed.  At 55% power cruise, the IO-390 consumes as little as 7.2 gph… making the aircraft a great cross country aircraft as well.  The Denali Scout is also equipped with an updated avionics package including the Aspen Avionics Evolution EFD1000 Pilot primary flight display system, a JPI EDM-930 engine monitor, and a panel-mounted Garmin 496 GPS.

The aircraft featured in the article, 2011 Denali Scout s/n 531-2011 – N555AC, is the same aircraft that Cutter Aviation, the American Champion Aircraft dealer for the Southwestern United States, currently has in inventory for sale.  Click here to see the spec for our 2011 American Champion Denali Scout online.  The aircraft is currently located at Cutter Aviation San Antonio (SAT) and is available for viewing and demo flights for pilots interested in owning the first of it’s kind from American Champion Aircraft.

PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Cutter Aviation is happy to announce that it will be accepting and delivering the first Quest KODIAK for the Southwestern U.S. dealer territory from Quest Aircraft Company in December 2011.  Cutter Aviation Aircraft Sales was announced as the Authorized New Aircraft Dealer for Quest KODIAK for the Southwest U.S. in August 2011 at EAA AirVenture by Quest Aircraft Company. Cutter Aviation Aircraft Sales is excited to bring KODIAK s/n 100-0061 to the region and demonstrate the KODIAK’s modern, rugged and powerful STOL capabilities while carrying high useful loads to every runway from modern urban airports to remote backcountry airstrips.

Powered by the reliable Pratt & Whitney PT6A-34 turboprop engine, the Quest KODIAK can take off in under 1,000 feet at full gross weight and climb at over 1,300 feet per minute.  Configured for straight cargo or up to 10-seat in a passenger layout, the KODIAK features the latest Garmin G1000 flightdeck and can easily handle unimproved airstrips.  Additionally the KODIAK is configurable for water operations with floats or amphibs without structural upgrades as the airframe was designed for such operations originally.

“The Quest KODIAK is truly a perfect aircraft for owners and operators in the Southwest United States” said R.D. Wooten, Regional Quest KODIAK Sales Manager for Cutter Aviation Aircraft Sales. “The vast stretches of sparsely populated and rugged landscape in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California requires a flexible utility aircraft like the KODIAK to get the job done.”

Wooten adds, “Combine it with the challenging terrain and the number of remote ranches, drilling and mining operations, outposts and even communities in the region that are only easily accessible by air and it’s easy to see why the KODIAK fits the needs of our customers in the Southwest.”

The Quest KODIAK s/n 100-0061 being delivered in December by Cutter Aircraft Sales will feature premium options such as the larger 29” Tire upgrade package, four additional Timberline passenger seats, air conditioning and the Garmin GDL 69A-XM Data Link with Audio Infotainment package to give it the utmost utility capabilities for customers within the Southwest.

Mr. Goyer presents a very thorough review of the Mirage including its lineage and what has changed in the PA-46 as it has evolved into the 2011 model he had the opportunity to experience flying with Regional Sales Manager for Texas Piper North, Larry Johnson.  Goyer details and highlights the updated Garmin G1000 flight deck, now standard on the entire PA-46 line including the Piper Meridian, Piper Mirage, and Piper Matrix.  He also gives a great description of the characteristics of the Mirage, both on the ground and in the air.  Goyer and Johnson conducted the flight as many owners do: in IFR conditions, through the dense Class B airspace of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and eventually climbing to FL 200 to FL 230 where it performs best and illustrates the value of a pressurized piston aircraft.

This point is driven home by Goyer in his statement:

Goyer: “Just as it first did back in 1982, today’s PA-46 makes a compelling argument that a pressurized piston single done right makes a lot of sense for pilots who want to go places with family, friends and co-workers and do it in pressurized comfort.”

Cutter Aviation and Texas Piper Sales would like to thank FLYING Magazine and Mr. Goyer for the opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of the Piper Mirage for the feature article.  We’d also like to thank Mr. Goyer for visiting Cutter Aviation Dallas-McKinney and his kind words about our Dallas-Area Sales Manager Larry Johnson.

Goyer: “Johnson has been selling PA-46s for a long time, and he knows the airplane intimately; I couldn’t have asked for a better guide.”

Most certainly the entire Piper Aircraft PA-46 line of executive aircraft offers the kind of high-performance flexibility Goyer describes and with three models, the PA-46 gives owners a variety of choices to fit their flying needs… Meridian for fast turboprop performance; Mirage for pressurized, piston-powered comfort; and Matrix for six-place comfort and speed at unmatched value.
